About Us

The Plein Air Painters of El Paso was officially formed in 1997. Several of members had painted plein air before this ,so they were the inspiration that got us started in our weekly "plein air" paint outs.

Our group was small to begin with ,but grew steadily. As our membership increased, the opportunity for plein air exhibits followed.

In 2001 the first ever Plein Air Exhibit in El Paso was at the  Hal Marcus Gallery ,"his first gallery 2430 N. Mesa."  The Exhibit was called "The Barrio and Beyond".

Other Plein Air art exhibit locations include the "International Museum Of Art" and among other locations were  two Exhibits at the "Chamizal National Memorial . The first exhibit at the Chamizal was called "Along the Rio Grande" this exhibit went onto the Department of Interior  Museum in Washington, DC., and stayed on exhibit from 2004 until 2005. The second Plein Air exhibit at the Chamizal was in 2007 ,titled "On the Border."

"The Plein Air Painters of El Paso" is an active group and our mission statement, if we had one, would be to go out and paint .To step into, feel, smell and be apart of what we paint. What more can you ask for as an Artist.

The Artists who formed the "Plein Air Painters of El Paso "in 1997, were Bob Adams, Corinne Spinnler, Krystyna Robbins, Julie Ford Oliver and Chuck Gabriel.  Chuck Gabriel designed the "Plein Air Painters of El Paso" logo.  Those early Artists who painted with us and inspired us with their talent and encouragement were Mary Cook, Erleen Barnes and Bill Rakocy.
